"Chapter One: Coming Back to Your Senses" from
Principles of Brain Management: A Practical Approach to Making the Most of Your Brain by Ilchi Lee
Brain management = goal management/ stress management/ life management
The first step of brain management is coming back to your senses. But what does it mean to come back to your senses? It's:
- gaining a better sense of how your body feels at all times.
- being able to sense your body's energy.
- regaining any sense of yourself you may have lost.
- coming back to "reality" or the center inside you.
In other words, to manage your brain you first need to take stock of what is really going on in each moment .
And you
don't need tests or other people to do it. This chapter gives simple exercises for making your senses come alive to your everyday experience. Read it and gain a better sense of how to manage your brain, your goals, and your life.

Push-up Your Confidence
|
|
Tip from Principles of Brain Management
Confidence is something most of us want, but it may not come easily or naturally. Luckily, it's something we can practice by overcoming our limitations again and again. Physical limitations are the easiest to practice with, because our body's limitations are easy to see.
Push-ups are an especially good exercise for practicing confidence. Besides helping you overcome your limitations, they also give you strength and stamina, and help you manage stress.
At first, you will may only be able to do a few push-ups. You can even start on your knees or pushing against a wall if regular push-ups are too hard for you. But if you promise yourself that you'll add at least one push-up every day, and stick with it, eventually you'll even be able to do 100 without stopping. Make a goal for yourself and practice, practice, practice.
Once you've achieved your push-up goal, you'll know what confidence feels like and you can apply your experience to all areas of your life!
