Belly button healing.

Ever heard of it? Sounds a bit strange at first, I know. But it’s actually quite practical and powerful once you understand what it’s all about. In New York Times bestselling author Ilchi Lee’s newest book, I’ve Decided to Live 120 Years: The Ancient Secret to Longevity, Vitality, and Life Transformation, he teaches us this simple yet effective form of self-healing. And it has to do with—you guessed—your belly button!

You’re probably thinking to yourself, “what in the world is belly button healing, and how does it work?” Well, let’s jump right in and find out!

Belly button healing has to do with the stimulation of the belly button to support mind-body healing. It’s an ideal exercise for those in the second half of their life, as it’s simple to do and easy on the body. In fact, you can even do it if you can’t stand on your own two feet. If you’re tied down to a wheelchair, you can still do the practice throughout the day. By compressing the belly button in a steady and rhythmic manner, you improve various body-mind functions like digestion, energy, sleep quality, mood, and kidney function.

In fact, seniors across the globe have eagerly taken to the practice. Belly button healing is being taught at nursing homes and senior centers around the world. Some of those seniors who suffered kidney problems and even kidney failure significantly improved their condition via the practice of belly button healing.

So, why is the belly button so important?

Well, the belly button is a trigger point. It’s located in a special location—directly in the center of your abdomen. Surrounding the belly button are the most important organs responsible for digestion, circulation, respiration, and immunity—functions necessary for the sustenance of our very lives.

Stimulation of the belly button has a direct effect on all these functions. We naturally breathe deeper, strengthen digestion, improve circulation, and boost immunity—by simply pressing on the belly button in a mindful and conscientious way.

Here’s how you practice belly button healing:

Sit comfortably or lie on your back and allow your body and mind to relax deeply. Take a moment to tune into your state of being. How do you feel, in this moment? There’s no need to judge. Just notice how you feel. Next, bring the tips of your pointer, middle, and ring fingers on both hands together. Begin pressing them repeatedly into your belly button. There’s no need to touch your skin—compress your belly button through whatever clothes you’re wearing.

As you get into the rhythm of things, close your eyes and focus your attention on your belly button. Continue pressing on the belly button in a natural and comfortable rhythm. Breathe naturally, exhaling out your mouth. If you want to take the technique a step further, you can use a wand that Lee has named Healing Life.

Afterward, breathe deeply while continuing to bring your awareness to your belly button. You can even visualize your belly button as being able to breathe itself. Imagine there’s a nose on your belly button, and each time you inhale, the belly rises and brings in healing life force energy. Each time you exhale, the belly contracts, releasing toxins and whatever else it needs to let go of for deep and restorative healing. This kind of visualization is necessary to really get the most from your belly button healing session.

The belly button is the remainder of what was left from your umbilical cord as a newborn babe. Just as you were given life-supporting nutrients, energy, love, and comfort from your mother when you were in her womb via the umbilical chord, you can imagine that with each deep breath you take, you’re receiving life force energy, comfort, and love from the Universe. You can do this for as long as you like—ideally for at least 100 to 300 repetitions per session.

There you have it! That’s the essence of belly button healing. To learn more about it and delve deeper into why it’s an essential part of longevity and aging with ease, I encourage you to read I’ve Decided to Live 120 Years. It’s a fascinating book on aging gracefully that’s sure to excite, inspire, and guide your life journey.
